A eureka room restructure moment led Kim and Danny to invest in their dream family kitchen sooner than expected. We discover how the KC team turned the couple’s vision into reality, tailoring every detail to perfection.
The Brief
Having moved into a recently renovated West Yorkshire barn conversion, Kim and Danny didn’t have any big interior projects on the agenda. However, one niggle kept playing on their minds. “There was a large room at the front of the property that led out into the garden, which didn’t really have a purpose,” explains Kim. “One night, I dreamt we moved the kitchen into that space, and when I told Danny, he agreed it could be a great idea. It seemed a shame to take out the existing kitchen located at the rear of the property, but its position and layout didn’t really work for us. We wanted practically for our growing family but also a space that would wow.”
The Design
Kim and Danny had already spotted their ‘dream kitchen’ during an earlier visit to KC Design House to enquire about a replacement boiling water tap. “At that point, we weren’t expecting to change the kitchen for some time,” recalls Kim. But with their renewed house layout in mind, they returned to the showroom to discuss their ideas with the team. The design that they’d instantly fallen for was the KC Exclusively Made In-Frame kitchen. “We totally loved the showroom display and expected to pretty much replicate that in our house,” says Kim. “However, as we began the bespoke design process, we realised just how detailed and personal it all is.”
The Process
Following a home visit from KC managing and design director Richard, plans for an aesthetically impressive yet highly functional family kitchen began to come together. “Richard and Dominic came up with some amazing ideas and helped us with decisions but kept reminding us that our choices had to be right for us,” says Kim. “It was a long process, but we really considered every element, so the whole design was tailored to our needs and preferences.” Key to the room design was large bi-fold doors leading out into the garden. Meanwhile, top priorities for the kitchen included lots of practical storage, symmetrical design, and plenty of space to prep and entertain.
Using KC for the entire project meant that stress was minimised from concept to completion. “The design process was a real experience, and the tradesmen were fabulous,” says Kim. “KC project managed everything, so we didn’t have to worry about a thing.”
The Results
Making full use of the room’s fabulous positioning, the couple’s bespoke KC kitchen offers ample space for the family as well as entertaining guests. Central to the design is a large island for preparation, cooking and socialising, with further seating for up to ten provided by a unique KC booth-style dining area.
Both modern and timeless in its appeal, the In-Frame kitchen cabinets are painted in Farrow and Ball’s grey-hued Mole’s Breath, accompanied by solid white * worktops peppered with specs of grey. The aesthetically pleasing symmetrical design features easy-accessible drawer storage as well as practical larders with hidden storage solutions. Innovative appliances, also sourced through KC, further enhance the space, including Bora Cooktop, Miele ovens, Subzero fridge freezer, Quooker boiling tap and Liebherr wine fridge. A stylish bar unit, which cleverly houses garden furniture cushions beneath, completes the overall wow factor that Kim and Danny craved.
“It’s great knowing that we’ve chosen every bit of the kitchen so that it works perfectly for us,” says Kim. “It’s also enabled us to put our own stamp on the property. Charlotte at KC helped advise on some of the interior finishing touches, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. We wouldn’t change a single thing.”
